WAT KHAO WUA (วัดเขาวัว)
Wat Khao Wua or the "Monastery of the Buffalo Horn" was situated off the city island
in the northern area of Ayutthaya in Khlong Sra Bua sub-district.

The temple was located south of
Wat Sri Pho and more or less opposite of Wat Chao
Ya and Wat Raeng. Wat Kamphaeng stood on its south. Wat Khao Wua stood on the
west bank of
Khlong Sra Bua in an are called Thung Khwan.

In situ are the ruins of a monastic structure completely covered in vegetation. The site has
been classified as a brick mound although some minor brick work is still standing.

The site is only mentioned on a 1993 and 2005 Fine Arts Department map. On the latter
map the site is named Wat Kha Wua (วัดขาวัว).

In Ref [1] we find a Wat Khai Wua (วัดค่ายวัว) market at Pottery Village. In remark
(123) we read that Wat Khai Wua (Buffalo Camp Monastery) was situated behind Ban
Mo (บ่านม่อ) or Pottery Village. Apparently Wat Khai Wua and Wat Khao Wua must
be one and the same monastery.

Historical data about the monastery and its construction is unknown.

Some remains of the temple were excavated by the Fine Arts Department (FAD) in Geo
Coord: +14° 22' 5.52" N, +100° 33' 24.20" E (based on 2005 map).
