WAT KAMPHAENG (วัดกำแพง) |
Wat Kamphaeng or the "Monastery of the Wall" was located off the city island in the northern area of Ayutthaya in Pho Sam Ton sub-district of Bang Pahan in Ayutthaya Province. The temple is located north of the former Burmese Pho Sam Ton Camp and south of Wat Pho Hom on the west bank of the old Lopburi River, Khlong Muang today. In situ is a brick mound with a commemoration vihara on top, providing shelter to a number of Buddha images. The historical background and period of construction of the former monastery are not known, but likely it has a link to the history of the Burmese Camp in the vicinity. Wat Kamphaeng is situated in Geo Coord: 14° 25' 1.09" N, 100° 32' 42.10" E. |
