WAT KHOK KAEO





Wat Khok Kaeo, or the Monastery of the Crystal Mound, is a ruin located off the main island in the southeast area of Ayutthaya, in the Ko Rian Sub-district.


Wat Khok Yai Luk (mound) stood north, Wat Sangkhawat (mound) east and Wat Song Kuson west. The ruin is one of the southernmost monasteries in the Ayutthaya City District.


A Ficus Religiosa or Bodhi tree engulfs elements of a brick structure. The structure situated on a small mound of collapsed bricks cannot be identified. A Buddha image has been placed on the mound, indicating that the location is sacred and worshipped.


The history and establishment of Wat Khok Kaeo are unknown.
