WAT YAI CHAI MONGKHON - SITE 2

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, or the Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory, is located off the city island in the southeastern area of Ayutthaya, in the Phai Ling Sub-district. To its east side, just over the moat, there were two small temples situated. They are called Ancient Temples No. 1 and 2.

Temple No. 2 was north of Temple No. 1. In situ is a badly damaged classical stupa from the middle Ayutthaya period (1489-1629 CE) and the foundations of a vihara. The chedi stands on the west side and in line with the vihara, which had its entry to the east, a classical monastic construction. The chedi has a square platform and a round base. The bell-shaped dome is heavily damaged, and the harmika and spire are missing. A part of the damaged spire lies next to the platform.

The historical data about the monastery and its construction are unknown.

The site is in geographical coordinates: 14° 20' 46.75" N, 100° 35' 39.44" E.X
